11 foreigners detained for misusing Immigration department logo

KUALA LUMPUR: Aug 10, 2026 – The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) detained 11 foreign nationals during a special operation in Setapak and Jalan Kuching, Kuala Lumpur, yesterday, following the viral spread of a video showing a Toyota Hilux displaying the JIM logo and directional warning lights.

The operation, conducted at 4.30pm, led to the arrest of a Pakistani man believed to be involved in the video, as well as the vehicle owner, also a Pakistani national.

In addition, eight workers from a car wash premises – comprising four Bangladeshis, three Pakistanis and one Indian – were also detained.

An Indonesian woman found to have overstayed in the country was also picked up during the operation.

JIM said initial investigations revealed that the video was recorded in April 2025 before being uploaded to a WhatsApp status on Aug 7.

The vehicle owner admitted to having installed the JIM logo and directional lights for personal use without any official purpose.

All those detained, along with the vehicle, were taken to the Immigration Office for further investigation and action.

JIM stressed that it would not compromise on the misuse of the department’s logo or identity, which could mislead the public and tarnish the image and integrity of the agency.
