KOTA KINABALU: July 22, 2026 – The Sabah State Legislative Assembly passed the Supplementary Supply Bill 2026, amounting to RM1.61 billion, on Tuesday.
The bill, tabled by Deputy Chief Minister II and State Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, was passed before Deputy Speaker Datuk Al Hambra Tun Juhar following debates involving 42 assembly members.
The supplementary allocation is divided into six main categories: contributions to statutory funds (RM856 million), operating expenditure (RM278 million), investment expenditure (RM210 million), administrative expenditure (RM162 million), domestic grants (RM93 million), and special allocations (RM13 million).
During the debate, Merotai assemblyman Sarifuddin Hata suggested that the state government prepare more realistic annual budget estimates in future. He welcomed the largest single allocation of RM233.7 million to the Sabah Ministry of Public Works and Utilities, particularly for water supply projects, which remain a major issue across the state. However, he questioned the increase in equity investment in government-linked companies (GLCs) totalling RM210 million.
Meanwhile, Kapayan assemblyman Datuk Chin Tek Ming questioned the actual status of the RM1.5 billion Interim Special Grant announced by the Prime Minister and reiterated the need for the state government to provide a full explanation regarding the proposed RM1.6126 billion additional allocation.
The state assembly sitting resumes today.
