KENINGAU: Oct 20, 2026 – The Kolej Vokasional (KV) Keningau team bagged third place in the FUSE X SERY social entrepreneurship competition organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) in Putrajaya from 16 to 18 October, through a karate training class project that benefits the community.
The team, known as Karatekas, took home a plaque, certificate and cash prize amounting to RM1,000 from the success of the project, which targets youths, children and students with special needs.
The project was carried out following a training camp organised by KBS in June, with the support of a micro grant, monitoring and guidance from myHarapan, a non-governmental organisation focused on youth empowerment.

Besides teaching karate techniques, the class also instilled emotional control techniques to help participants build self-confidence, mental resilience and the ability to manage their emotions.
KV Keningau director Lumang anak Lang said the success was hoped to encourage students to continue carrying out social entrepreneurship initiatives that benefit the community.
“I hope the students will continue to practise the concept of social entrepreneurship that prioritises community welfare and environmental conservation,” he said.

The FUSE X SERY competition was divided into two categories, namely Facing Up Social Entrepreneurship (FUSE) for school-going youths aged 15 to 17 and Social Entrepreneurship for Rural Youth (SERY) for school-leavers aged 18 to 30.
Seven teams advanced to the final stage of the school-going youth category, three of them representing KV Keningau.
Two other teams from the college, Slices of Care and Eureka Hub, finished fourth and seventh respectively.
Team Green Force emerged as champions, while Naturepreneurs took second place, with both teams from Peninsular Malaysia.
