KENINGAU: June 29, 2026 – Keningau Vocational College made history when its innovative project, The Good Games Project, won a Gold Award at the International Innovation Competition in Education, held alongside the International Innovative Science and Mathematics Education Festival 2026 in Keningau recently.

The achievement demonstrates that creative, accessible and community-based learning approaches can have a significant impact on character and skills development, including self-confidence, communication, critical thinking, leadership and teamwork.

The Good Games Project is an initiative that uses board games as an interactive learning medium to create a fun and meaningful educational environment.

Through this approach, students are trained to solve problems, make decisions, communicate effectively and guide their peers in a more relaxed and conducive setting.

“Innovation does not have to be expensive or high-tech. Ideas that resonate with students and are implemented consistently can have a huge impact,” said project advisor, Khalifa Affnan.

The project has also been extended to the local community in Keningau through mentoring sessions, enabling students to act as young mentors. This benefits not only individuals but the community as a whole.

The Good Games Project team was guided by advisor Khalifa Affnan, with Melvin Kut Eber as head mentor, assisted by Aoudry Ann Thien and Elisha Carmen Erick.

The success reflects Keningau Vocational College’s ongoing commitment to strengthening a culture of innovation and creativity, in line with its aspiration to produce highly skilled, competitive TVET graduates capable of making positive contributions to society.

The college expressed hope that this international recognition would act as a catalyst, encouraging more students and educators to continue producing high-quality educational innovations that raise the profile of both the institution and the nation on the global stage.
