KOTA KINABALU: 24 October 2026 — A total of 30 children and grandchildren of members of the Malaysia–China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) Sabah took part in NGEO Bob The Builder: Build & Paint Your Own Mini House at the Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Berhad Industrial Park. The event provided early exposure to basic construction skills through hands-on learning.

Organised by the New Generation Entrepreneurs Organisation (NGEO) of MCCC Sabah, the event gave participants the opportunity to learn basic construction activities, including mixing cement, laying bricks, measuring structures and painting mini houses under the guidance of experienced site supervisors.

MCCC Sabah President Datuk Dexter Lau said experience-based education and exposure to industry were important in shaping a younger generation that is curious, confident and appreciative of various fields of work.

“A chamber of commerce not only serves to connect the business community, but also creates opportunities for the younger generation to learn from the industries around them,” he said.

NGEO Chairman Charlene Chea said the event aimed to make learning more engaging by enabling children to understand the construction process. It also fostered appreciation for the skills and effort required in the industry.

NGEO Deputy Chairman Katryn Haw said the event highlighted the importance of a skilled workforce and technical professions. She noted that academic knowledge needed to be balanced with practical skills.

Participants were divided into six groups to carry out the mini house construction activities. Older children of MCCC Sabah members also served as young volunteers to assist the younger participants.

The involvement of the young volunteers aimed to cultivate leadership, responsibility and a spirit of community service among the younger generation.

MCCC Sabah hopes that similar events will continue to encourage experience-based learning, volunteerism and awareness of various industries. This also complements formal education in the classroom.
