KOTA KINABALU: Oct 2026 – A father and his daughter were killed after the Toyota Avanza they were travelling in was crushed by a container in Jalan Sepanggar, near Sepanggar Port, yesterday.
Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief ACP Shahrudin Mat Husain said the incident occurred when the driver of a trailer lorry, aged 49, was unloading a container onto the trailer, while the victims’ car was passing through the right lane.
He said the container suddenly lost balance before falling and crushing the car, trapping the 53-year-old man and his 24-year-old daughter.
He said Fire and Rescue Department personnel managed to extricate both victims at 9.55 pm before they were pronounced dead by medical officers at Likas Hospital at 9.58 pm.
“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said in a statement today.
