KOTA BELUD: Oct 19, 2026 — Tamu Besar Kota Belud continues to serve as a platform for unity among multi-ethnic communities while strengthening Sabah’s tourism sector through the uniqueness of local culture.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor said the 148-year-old tamu is not merely a trading centre but also a meeting ground for local communities.
“Through the strong spirit of unity at this tamu, we prove that Sabah’s ethnic diversity is our greatest strength to continue progressing together in realising the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Development Plan,” he said.
He said the tradition must be preserved in line with current demands so that it remains relevant to future generations.
The tamu also showcases local food, handicrafts and local culture, thereby creating economic opportunities for small traders, farmers, livestock breeders and homestay operators.
Hajiji said this in his speech at the Tamu Besar Kota Belud 2026 Celebration at the Kota Belud Weekly Tamu Site on Saturday.
Kota Belud also offers tourism experiences through its islands, rivers, recreational and natural attractions. The district has been part of the Kinabalu UNESCO Global Geopark since May 2023.
The State Government continues to focus on basic infrastructure development through the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK-13) and the SMJ 2.0 Development Plan.
