KUCHING: Nov 7, 2026 – The Election Commission (SPR) will use optical character recognition technology through the Optical Character Recognition – Voter Attendance (OCR-VA) system at all voting channels in the 82 state constituencies for the 13th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly General Election (PRU DUN).
The system is part of SPR’s expanded digitalisation efforts in the electoral process, particularly in voter attendance verification.
SPR Chairman, Dato’ Sri Ramlan bin Dato’ Harun said the use of OCR-VA does not change the existing voting procedure.
“Voters only need to present themselves at the polling centre as usual, submit their identification documents to the staff for verification purposes and subsequently proceed with the voting process,” he said yesterday.
According to him, the OCR-VA pilot project is part of SPR’s digital transformation in the electoral process.
The 13th Sarawak State Election is scheduled to take place on 12 December. A total of 2,058,781 voters are eligible to vote in the 82 seats.
Nomination Day is set for 28 November, while early voting will be on 8 December. The campaign period spans 14 days until 11 December.
The election also involves 40,505 personnel at 2,027 polling centres with 4,588 channels. An allocation of RM174.94 million has been provided.
SPR has also established 82 Election Campaign Enforcement Teams (PP-KPR) to monitor campaign activities.
