KOTA BHARU: August 18, 2026 – The Sabah/Labuan Zone boys’ badminton team from Vocational College (KV) emerged as champions of the 2026 National SUKOV (Vocational Colleges Sports Championship) after defeating the Selangor/Kuala Lumpur Zone 3-2 in the final held from 10 to 15 August in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.
The victory was secured by the seven-member squad comprising players from KV Keningau, KV Kudat and KV Lahad Datu, who recorded wins in every match from the preliminary rounds through to the final.
The Sabah/Labuan team overcame Kedah/Perlis 4-1, Penang 5-0, Terengganu 4-1, Selangor/Kuala Lumpur 3-2, Perak 4-1 and Malacca/Negeri Sembilan 3-0 before once again edging out Selangor/Kuala Lumpur in the championship decider.
“I am extremely proud of this achievement, especially since KV Keningau served as the host for the zonal SUKOV competition and also emerged as badminton champions for the Sabah/Labuan Zone,” said KV Keningau Director, Lumang anak Lang.
He added that KV Keningau serves as a training hub for athletes in several tournaments, including badminton competitions.
Meanwhile, the Sabah/Labuan Zone girls’ badminton team clinched the Bowl category, while the Sabah/Labuan Zone were crowned overall champions of the National SUKOV after winning five of the events contested.
