KOTA KINABALU: June 27, 2026 – A special screening of Sabah-made films has drawn enthusiastic audiences, organisers say, in a sign of growing appetite for local cinema.

Documentaries and feature films screened as part of the Sabah Film Appreciation (AFiS) 2026 event have been well received, according to the Sabah Film and Visual Association (SAFVA), which is hosting the showcase.

The programme, which runs from 26 to 28 June, enters its final stretch on Saturday with three more screenings still to come.

The film NINAVAU will be shown on Saturday, 27 June 2026, at 1.00pm at City Cineplex, City Mall in Luyang.

On Sunday, 28 June, audiences will have the chance to see Silence of The 177 and MANTERA.

All five films featured in the programme are supported by the National Film Development Corporation of Malaysia (FINAS), with TV Sabah acting as official media partner.

Among the titles already screened are the documentary The Sight of Borneo Kirin, directed by the late Pentium Tee, and the film Craze Below The Wind, directed by Katak Chua. Both have drawn strong attendances, which organisers say reflects a deepening interest in Sabah’s home-grown productions.

Members of the public are invited to attend the remaining screenings, which showcase works rich in local culture, history and creativity. Admission is free.
