KENINGAU: Sept 16, 2026 – The people are dismayed by remarks by Datuk Noorazli Mohd Nordin that were widely talked about ahead of Malaysia Day last Saturday, said Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) president Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Jeffrey G. Kitingan.
Kitingan, who is also Keningau MP, said the remarks did not reflect the harmonious spirit of Malaysia Day and must be addressed immediately.
“An apology without giving various excuses is a honourable act,” he said in a media statement here today.
Dr Jeffrey said the official ceremony at the Keningau Oath Stone today once again served as a reminder of the oath of loyalty to Malaysia, with “freedom of religion in Sabah” as the first and foremost principle, coupled with the understanding of preserving multi-religious harmony.
He said promises based on traditional ceremonies such as the Oath Stone carry their own consequences if not honoured, and Malaysia itself is now being held to account over its 63 years.
He supported the statement by Pertubuhan Ethnik Gana Sabah’s Julian Favianus Lian @ Mohd. Hafiz, who urged Sepang UMNO division chief Noorazli to apologise publicly following his remarks.
Although Noorazli said it was a joke and satire, Julian said the remarks were highly inappropriate and offensive.
“The holy book, Catholic priests and Catholic nuns should not be made the subject of sexual jokes or ridiculed from the stage of a major national political party’s assembly,” he stressed.
Noorazli should also acknowledge his error of judgment and publicly apologise, without any conditions, to Catholics and the entire Christian community.
