KUALA LUMPUR: Aug 6 2026 – The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) welcomes the Cabinet’s decision to approve immediate enhancements to the nation’s aviation security controls through the deployment of police personnel in the Aviation Security Unit (AVSEC).
Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Hj. Mohd Khalid Ismail, affirmed PDRM’s commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of these measures. The police force, in collaboration with the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Transport, and relevant agencies, is currently finalising the implementation mechanism, which encompasses the scope of duties, deployment locations, manpower requirements, areas of responsibility, and operational coordination.
The involvement of PDRM in the aviation security ecosystem will bolster intelligence-sharing capabilities, early threat detection, and enforcement coordination. This enables immediate action to be taken against any criminal activities attempting to exploit aviation facilities.
This initiative establishes a more comprehensive and layered aviation security system through the strengthening of access control, screening procedures, security inspections, risk assessments, and strategic inter-agency cooperation.
According to Mohd Khalid, tighter, integrated, and risk-based security controls are capable of reducing potential threats and closing any loopholes that could be exploited by irresponsible parties.
“PDRM gives its assurance that aviation security and the security of the nation’s points of entry will continue to be given top priority. Any attempt to use the aviation industry as a channel for criminal activities will not be compromised,” he stressed.
PDRM reiterates its ongoing commitment to cooperate with all ministries and enforcement agencies to ensure that the nation’s aviation security standards remain well-preserved.
