TAMBUNAN: June 30, 2026 – An initiative combining Mother’s Day and Father’s Day celebrations with a communal clean-up activity in Kampung Kapayan Lama yesterday has proven successful in bringing the community together to honour parents, while also strengthening family ties and neighbourhood spirit.
The programme, organised by the Kapayan Lama Village Neighbourhood Watch Committee (KRT), not only served as a platform to celebrate loved ones but also encouraged resident participation in community activities, fostering a culture of cooperation and shared responsibility in maintaining the village’s cleanliness and harmony.

The chairman of the Kapayan Lama KRT, Junis Gilou, said the merging of these two meaningful elements provided an opportunity for parents, children and the wider community to spend quality time together through beneficial activities.
“This programme is not just about celebrating parents, but also about strengthening the bonds of friendship between parents, children and the community. At the same time, it fosters a spirit of cooperation and creates a clean, cheerful and harmonious village environment,” he said.

According to him, the response received was highly encouraging, with active participation from residents in every activity undertaken, making this programme an exemplary model for high-impact community initiatives.
One of the mothers honoured,Joanna Jinot, expressed her joy and emotion, saying she was grateful that efforts to appreciate parents continued through such programmes.
“I feel very happy, touched and valued to be celebrated in this programme,” she said, adding that she hoped the younger generation would always respect, love and appreciate their parents, while also becoming responsible individuals towards their families, communities and the nation.
Meanwhile, a resident, Calista Victorian, praised the programme for successfully creating a warm atmosphere and encouraging interaction between villagers.
“What I liked most was the sense of warmth and cooperation among the residents,” she said.
Junis said the KRT hoped that such programmes would continue in the future with even greater resident participation, in order to further strengthen neighbourhood spirit and community unity in Kampung Kapayan Lama.
