TAWAU: Aug 26, 2026 — The Marine Police Force (PPM) Region 4 Sabah seized untaxed cigarettes, two fibre boats and two boat engines worth a total of RM601,400 during a raid at Kampung Sri Aman Jetty, Batu 3, Tawau, at about 2.20am on Monday.
The operation was mounted following intelligence gathering and surveillance after the team detected suspicious activity believed to be linked to cigarette smuggling from a neighbouring country.
The seizure comprised 250,000 sticks of Premium International white cigarettes valued at RM375,000 and 48,000 sticks of Menara Dunia clove cigarettes worth RM86,400.
The suspects believed to be involved fled by jumping into the sea when the raid was carried out, but efforts to track them down could not be continued due to the dark surroundings.
The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
From January to August this year, PPM Region 4 Sabah recorded 55 cases under the Customs Act 1967, with total seizure value amounting to RM7,337,542.61, and 39 individuals detained.
PPM Region 4 Sabah Commander, ACP Ahmad Amri Abd Rahman, said the force would continue to intensify intelligence, patrols and enforcement operations at locations identified as smuggling routes.
