SIPITANG: August 2,2026 – The Maal Hijrah celebration at the district level in Sipitang has served as a platform for the local community to engage in self-improvement, reflect on the Prophet Muhammad’s struggles, and strengthen unity among residents.
Sipitang Member of Parliament, Datuk Matbali Musah, said the event, which took place at the Sipitang District Council Hall on Friday, also played a role in promoting Islamic culture and enhancing Islamic visibility.
He said that reflection on the Prophet’s hijrah (migration) should serve as a guiding principle in daily life to help build a better society.
“This celebration serves as a platform for self-improvement and is capable of enhancing Islamic visibility while fostering a spirit of unity among various segments of society.
“Furthermore, it can also strengthen the sense of togetherness and reinforce unity among the local community, particularly through programmes like today’s event,” he told the media after the ceremony.
According to Matbali, the involvement of mosque and surau committee chairmen in such programmes is crucial to ensuring these institutions continue to serve as a unifying medium for the ummah (Islamic community).
“With the participation of mosque and surau chairmen, it can help ensure that this district continues to excel and enhance the role of mosques and surau as platforms for community unity,” he added.
He said the story of the Prophet Muhammad’s hijrah carries many lessons that can serve as examples, particularly in terms of personal transformation and the struggle to build a better life.
Meanwhile, Matbali expressed hope that the local community would take heed from the Maal Hijrah celebration by making positive changes in their lives.
Young people, in particular, should constantly engage in self-reflection and practise commendable morals to curb the rise in social ills, which have become increasingly concerning due to changing times.
