TAWAU: Sept 18, 2026 – A 26-year-old foreign man was arrested by police after a semi-automatic Colt .45 pistol, three rounds of ammunition and 901.35g of drugs suspected to be syabu were seized in a raid on a lodging room in Jalan Dunlop, Tawau.
Tawau district police chief ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said the raid was carried out by a team of officers and personnel from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID), including the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID), of the Tawau District Police Headquarters.
During the raid, police found a semi-automatic Colt .45 pistol, a magazine and three rounds of ammunition kept in black plastic inside the lodging room.
The suspect then led the police team to a Proton Wira parked at the lodging area before a check of a black sling bag under the driver’s seat found a plastic packet containing a clear crystalline substance suspected to be syabu weighing 901.35g.
Initial investigations found the suspect admitted the drugs belonged to him, while a urine screening test found him positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
In the firearms case, the suspect claimed the pistol was obtained from a man in another district and was believed to be for sale to another party in a neighbouring country.
The suspect is being investigated under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 and Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, as well as under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
The suspect has been remanded for 14 days to assist further investigations.
Police also advised the public not to be involved in drug abuse and trafficking, including the illegal possession of firearms.
