KOTA KINABALU: Oct 24, 2026 — Behind the gleam of trophies and thunderous applause that night lay a heartfelt message: every insurance policy signed is not merely a document, but a trust for a family hoping to face tomorrow with greater peace of mind.
Deputy Chief Minister II and Sabah Finance Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Masidi bin Manjun delivered that message at the AKARD NAMLIFA Sabah Branch 2026 Awards Presentation Ceremony at Port View Palace Hall yesterday.
The event celebrated excellence and dedication in the life insurance and family takaful profession.
However, this year’s focus went beyond career achievements. It pointed to a larger responsibility — ensuring financial protection remains affordable, accessible and sustainable for the people of Sabah.
“Behind every policy is a family, a source of income and a future that deserves protection,” said Masidi, reminding that true success lies not in the awards received, but in the lives protected and the futures secured.
He also touched on the harsh reality facing households today — rising healthcare costs and medical premiums that continue to climb, placing pressure on the industry.
In that regard, Masidi welcomed Bank Negara Malaysia’s Medical and Health Insurance and Takaful (MHIT) reform, including temporary measures to spread out affected premium adjustments over a period of at least three years.
He viewed the implementation of the proposed MediAsas standard medical protection plan, targeted nationally from January 2027, as a path towards better affordability.
Masidi also highlighted Bank Negara Malaysia’s Exposure Draft on Proper Advice Practices, which outlines the importance of professionalism, transparency and consumer protection.
“These principles must be reflected in every conversation with clients: clear explanations, suitable recommendations and honest advice on benefits, costs and limitations,” he said.
The real test, he added, is whether families can obtain and sustain meaningful protection.
Masidi praised NAMLIFA for its advocacy efforts, professional development and engagement with regulators. He urged closer cooperation among NAMLIFA, insurance companies, takaful operators and advisers to promote financial literacy and uphold the highest ethical standards.
“Trust is earned through service and strengthened by integrity,” he said, followed by the hope that Sabah would stand stronger financially — a place where more families face tomorrow with peace of mind.
Also present at the ceremony were NAMLIFA leadership, the Sabah Branch Committee, Mr Austin as Organising Committee Chairman, the National AKARD Chairman, sponsors and industry partners.
