KOTA KINABALU: Oct 23, 2026 — The state government has urged enforcement agencies to act firmly in implementing the ban on parking container trailers on the road shoulder along Jalan Pelabuhan Sepanggar and the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) area.
Deputy Chief Minister III, Datuk Ewon Benedick, stressed that aggressive measures must be taken immediately following a fatal accident that claimed the life of a road user recently.
“The accident involving the loss of life due to container unloading at Jalan Pelabuhan Sepanggar was also discussed in the Sabah State Government Cabinet meeting. Following that, I will call for a special discussion involving enforcement agencies to ensure compliance with the ban on parking container trailer lorries on the road shoulder,” he said in a statement today.
He explained that the special discussion will involve the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP), the Road Transport Department (JPJ), the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK).
He added that the container trailer transit parking area provided by KKIP is now fully open for use by logistics companies.
Therefore, all container transport companies are urged to make use of the facility and no longer park heavy vehicles on the road shoulder, which endangers the public.
The provision of the transit parking area is part of the 10 interim action plans monitored by the Teluk Sepanggar container port task force, which he himself chairs.
The task force also coordinates issues of congestion caused by the limited existing container storage area, while awaiting the completion of the port expansion project by October 2027.
