PUTATAN: 18 July 2026 – Sabah professional boxer Meredy Michael has described her draw against Josephine Pui Yin in the Minimumweight category at the BAM Championship at the Putatan Indoor Arena yesterday as a valuable experience that has strengthened her resolve to continue pursuing her dream of becoming a world champion.
Meredy insisted that the result had not dampened her spirits, as the bout had taught her many lessons, while proving that there was still room for improvement in the future.
“I am very happy and grateful. What matters is that I am okay, and my opponent is okay too,” she said.
Despite being tied to a draw, Meredy remained satisfied with the performance she displayed throughout the contest.
“I feel I can improve further, but I am proud of what I showed today,” she said.
According to Meredy, Josephine provided tough opposition, with both boxers exchanging blows, which tested their physical and mental resilience throughout the fight.

“I felt that during our exchanges, I needed to do more than her to ensure I gave my best performance,” she said.
Meredy said the strategy planned with her team had been successfully executed, as she adopted a more aggressive approach from the outset.
As part of her preparations for the BAM Championship, Meredy underwent intensive training with the Loredefi Team in the Philippines for nearly two months to ensure she was in peak condition.
The draw takes Meredy’s professional record to one win and two draws.
Meredy also expressed her appreciation to Josephine for accepting the challenge and delivering a competitive contest.
“Thank you for accepting this challenge. Take care, and I hope we meet again,” she said.
Meredy insisted that the draw had not changed her main target of continuing to achieve success in the professional boxing arena.
“I will keep training, and my target next year is to win the WBC belt,” she said.
Although she has yet to secure a victory by knockout (KO), Meredy is confident that discipline, consistent training and the experience gained in each contest will help her achieve her goal of becoming the first Malaysian female boxer to claim the WBC belt.
Meredy also expressed her gratitude to her main sponsor, One Dream Legacy, her parents, the Loredefi Team in the Philippines, and all the supporters who have stood by her throughout her professional career.
“I truly appreciate everyone’s support. Thank you for being with me from the beginning until today,” she said.
With her fighting spirit still burning bright, Meredy is determined to continue her journey in the professional arena and take Malaysia’s name further on the international boxing stage.
