TOYOHASHI: Sept 22, 2026 — National women’s karate athlete Adeola Fay Robert delivered Malaysia’s first gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games today.
The 20-year-old defeated Iran’s Fatemehzahra Saeidabadi 6-4 in the women’s kumite below 55kg final at Toyohashi Gymnasium.
The Sabah native from Tambunan advanced to the final after defeating Asrar Jasem of Kuwait 9-1, Sevinch Rakhimova of Uzbekistan 8-7 and Bella Samasheva of Kazakhstan 5-4 in the semi-finals.
The victory extends Adeola’s international form after she helped the Sabah women’s team kumite squad win gold at SUKMA XXII Selangor 2026 and bronze at the 2025 SEA Games in Bangkok.
Adeola also became a Sabah athlete to catch the eye by winning gold on her debut appearance at the Asian Games.
