GUANGZHOU: Nov 4, 2026 – Sabah business figure Datuk Dexter Lau brought the voice of Malaysia’s business sector to the international stage when he represented the Federation of Public Listed Companies Berhad (FPLC) in the signing of strategic cooperation with two major industrial groups from Guangzhou, China.

The cooperation through Letters of Intent (LOI) with Guangzhou Industrial Investment Holdings Group (GIIHG) and Dongling Holdings Group was sealed in conjunction with the 12th Guangzhou International Investment Conference on 4 November. It marked a historic first for FPLC in sealing such cooperation in China.

Dexter, who is also Executive Director of Kim Teck Cheong Consolidated Berhad (KTC), an FPLC Executive Committee member and President of the Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) Sabah, signed the LOI together with GIIHG Deputy General Manager Zhang Jinquan and Dongling Holdings Group Chairman Lai Ningchang.

The invitation reflects the recognition by Guangzhou authorities of the collective strength, international standing and business potential of Malaysian public listed companies.

According to Dexter, Guangzhou’s strengths in high-tech manufacturing, industrial investment, technological innovation and supply chain development complement Malaysia’s economic advantages. This creates significant potential for closer business cooperation.

He said Malaysia’s strategic position provides access to the wider ASEAN market, while Chinese companies have extensive expertise in industrial technology, manufacturing and capital investment.

He said that by leveraging these complementary strengths, companies from both countries are capable of creating more cross-border investment opportunities and commercial cooperation through resource sharing and closer collaboration.

GIIHG has a manufacturing history spanning more than a century and is a multinational industrial investment company involved in high-tech manufacturing, modern industrial services and industrial investment.

With a number of subsidiaries and listed companies under its belt, GIIHG has a business presence in more than 160 countries and territories, supported by capabilities in industrial integration, investment and international market development.

Dongling Holdings Group, established in 1994, is among the earliest companies recognised by Guangzhou as a corporate headquarters company. Its main business activities cover the grain and oil sector, machinery and investment, with more than 50 subsidiaries, affiliated companies and equity investment companies, and operations spanning more than 10 countries and territories.

Dongling Holdings Group has also been listed several times among China’s Top 500 Private Companies and Top 500 Manufacturing Companies.

The cooperation with FPLC is expected to strengthen corporate ties and encourage industrial collaboration. It also opens more channels for Guangzhou-based companies to establish or expand operations in Malaysia and the ASEAN region.

As an organisation representing public listed companies from various sectors, FPLC provides a platform enabling member companies to combine capital resources, industrial capabilities, corporate networks and access to international markets.

Also present were MCCC Sabah Vice President Yong Siew Lee and Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the Guangzhou Municipal Government Jiang Fan, along with several other representatives.
