MELAKA: Nov 1, 2026 – For the first time, coconut milk and China potatoes are listed under maximum price control in conjunction with Deepavali, providing relief to housewives concerned about the rising cost of kitchen essentials ahead of the festival.

The Government is implementing price controls on 11 types of essential goods from 4 to 10 November to ensure consumers receive supplies at controlled prices.

Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh, said the implementation also involves two new items, namely coconut milk and China potatoes.

“Traders are reminded to always comply with the law and not take advantage of the increased demand ahead of the festive season,” she said.

She said this when attending the RAHMAH MADANI Sales programme at Rumah Pangsa Lereh, Klebang, here today.

The programme is part of 103 cheap sales series in conjunction with Deepavali being implemented nationwide from 19 October to 15 November 2026 to help ease household expenses.

From 1 January to 30 September 2026, a total of 26,185 cheap sales series were organised nationwide, recording more than 28 million transactions or beneficiaries.

Under Budget 2027, RM750 million has been allocated for the programme with a target of 35,000 organised events. Items offered are sold at prices 10 to 30 per cent lower than market prices.

The maximum price control is enforced under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011. Consumers can check the list of items and maximum prices at the wholesale and retail levels through the official website of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).

KPDN will continue to monitor the prices and supply of essential goods. The public can also obtain information on the schedule and locations of cheap sales through the ministry’s official channels.
