KOTA KINABALU: Oct 26, 2026 — The Sabah Autism Society (SAS) has received a RM50,000 entrepreneurship fund from Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Ewon Benedick to implement entrepreneurship initiatives through the society’s autism centre beginning 2027.
Ewon said the fund is intended to support SAS’s efforts to introduce entrepreneurial activities that can benefit, create opportunities for, and develop the potential and skills of individuals with special needs.
“I agreed to support the entrepreneurship initiative that SAS wants to introduce through its autism centre with a fund of RM50,000.
“As a parent who is also raising a child with special needs, my wife and I share the concerns of other parents raising special children,” he said.
He said this after officiating the sixth edition of the UMS Sunset Autism Run organised by SAS at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) on 24 October.
The programme, which drew more than 1,000 participants, aimed to raise public awareness of autism and foster a spirit of solidarity with individuals with autism and their families.
Ewon also expressed his appreciation to SAS for its continued commitment to championing the welfare and development of individuals with autism in Sabah.
SAS President Jennifer Balanting said the RM50,000 fund is an important boost to the association’s efforts to introduce entrepreneurial activities for the autism community.
She said the fund will be used to implement several initiatives planned by SAS, including a roselle planting project in Tuaran.
Jennifer also expressed her appreciation to UMS, all participants, corporate sponsors, persons with disabilities (OKU) entrepreneurs, volunteers and all parties involved in making the programme a success.
