KUALA LUMPUR: Sept 23, 2026 – The Malaysian Prisons Department has stressed that security, control, discipline and inmate welfare are always prioritised in the management of prison institutions nationwide.
In a statement yesterday, the Prisons Department said all operations are carried out based on strict standard operating procedures (SOPs), including security control, inspections, monitoring and action against any rule violations.
It said intelligence activities, monitoring and reviews are also carried out continuously to identify any risks, threats or rule violations in prison institutions.
“The Malaysian Prisons Department does not deny that misconduct or isolated incidents can occur in any institution.
“However, every identified incident will be handled according to the rules and SOPs in force and is under the control of the prison authorities,” according to the statement.
The Prisons Department also urged that any information, complaints or allegations related to misconduct, law violations or the entry of prohibited articles into prison institutions be reported to the police or relevant official channels.
It said this step is important for investigations and appropriate action to be taken based on facts and evidence.
The public is also advised to obtain information from authentic, authoritative sources and not to speculate or spread unverified information.
The Prisons Department said it will continue to streamline SOPs, security controls, intelligence and monitoring mechanisms to ensure prison institutions remain safe, controlled and conducive.
