KOTA KINABALU: Sept 1, 2026 – A total of 179 contingents from various agencies and walks of life took part in the parade for the Sabah-level 2026 National Day celebrations in Kota Kinabalu city centre yesterday.
The parade was witnessed by an estimated 50,000 people who thronged the celebration area as early as 6am.
Participants included government agencies, security forces, uniformed bodies, educational institutions, the private sector, and community organisations.
Out of the total contingents, 10 emerged as champions in their respective categories.
Sekolah Kebangsaan Api Api Kota Kinabalu won the primary school category, while the Sabah State Correctional Cadet Corps took the secondary school category.
Komander Kesatria UiTM Sabah emerged champions in the public and private higher education institution (IPTA/IPTS) category.
The Sabah Youth Council won the non-governmental organisation (NGO) category.
The Bajau Tabawan Sabah Ethnic Association (PERBATAS) emerged champions in the Sabah ethnic association category, while the Yayasan Sabah Group won the private sector and statutory body category.
The Sabah State Finance Ministry emerged champions in the state-level non-uniformed government department category, while the Sabah Federal Secretary’s Office won the federal-level equivalent.
The DBKK Enforcement Department won the state-level uniformed government department category, while the Royal Malaysian Customs Department took the federal-level equivalent.
Cheers and thunderous applause accompanied the parade along the route as the contingents passed through the city centre.
People from various races and backgrounds gathered together, waving the Jalur Gemilang in an atmosphere filled with patriotic spirit.
Also present were Sabah Head of State, Tun Musa Haji Aman, and Sabah Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Haji Noor.
