MINDET Games a platform for unity, better public service, says Ewon

KOTA KINABALU: August 9, 2026 – The Sabah Ministry of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport (MINDET) launched its sports tournament today, bringing together more than 2,000 officers and staff from various departments to strengthen inter-agency cooperation and enhance public service delivery.

Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Ewon Benedick said he proposed the tournament himself following the expansion of his ministry’s portfolio.

“I suggested these games to foster a sense of belonging and close collaboration among agencies,” he said after officiating the badminton event at the Sabah Foundation Complex.

The tournament features a wide range of events, including badminton, football, volleyball, pickleball, golf, darts, bowling, table tennis, carrom, pool, athletics, and tug-of-war. Each department under MINDET takes turns hosting specific events.

Drawing inspiration from the 1992 Thomas Cup final victory, Ewon highlighted that sports have the power to unite people.

He said he hoped the spirit of unity would continue to drive MINDET personnel to work collectively towards realising the state’s development agenda.

He also expressed his appreciation to all parties for their commitment in ensuring the tournament’s success.
