LAHAD DATU: August 5, 2026 – A petrol station worker’s act of misusing a customer’s MyKad number to enjoy BUDI MADANI Diesel subsidies backfired when he was sentenced to eight months’ imprisonment and four strokes of the cane by the Lahad Datu Magistrates’ Court today.
The case came to light after a customer lodged a police report upon discovering that his MyKad number had been misused for four subsidised BUDI MADANI diesel purchase transactions involving 43.01 litres without his knowledge.
Following the report, the Commercial Crime Investigation Division of the Lahad Datu District Police Headquarters (IPD) arrested two men and a woman working at a petrol station to assist in investigations.
Investigations revealed that the suspect had memorised or recorded customers’ MyKad numbers before using a supervisor’s password to key in the numbers into the BUDI MADANI system without requiring the physical card.
The main suspect pleaded guilty to four charges under Section 403 of the Penal Code, while the other two individuals were made prosecution witnesses.
