KOTA KINABALU: August 5, 2026 – Kota Kinabalu District Police have successfully crippled a vehicle rim theft syndicate known as “Geng Andy” through a series of raids around Putatan, Penampang and Papar on 30 and 31 July, simultaneously solving 10 rim theft cases in the district.
Acting Kota Kinabalu District Police Chief, Superintendent Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman said the operation, based on intelligence from the District Criminal Investigation Division of IPD Kota Kinabalu, led to the arrest of four local men aged between 30 and 38 who are believed to have been actively involved in the activities.
“Following the raids, police seized a Perodua Myvi believed to have been used in the crimes, 21 units of various vehicle rims, two units of Perodua Myvi rims, various rim-opening tools and documents related to the syndicate’s activities,” he said in a statement today.
He explained that the syndicate is believed to have been involved in at least 10 cases of vehicle rim theft in Tanjung Aru, Luyang, Inanam, Karambunai and Menggatal, with the value of seizures estimated at RM20,000.
The case is being investigated under Section 379A(1) of the Penal Code, while all suspects have been remanded to facilitate further investigations.
In a separate development, police also solved a house break-in case at Bay 21, Likas involving the loss of three branded watches.
“Following the arrest of three suspects, police seized two Rolex watches, a Tissot watch and a payment receipt estimated to be worth RM30,000,” he added.
He said the success demonstrates the commitment of the Kota Kinabalu District Police in combating property crime and ensuring public safety remains safeguarded.
The public is advised to enhance security measures for their homes and vehicles, including installing closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems, using additional security devices, as well as channelling information related to criminal activities to the police.
