TELUPID: August 4, 2026 – A total of 30 Form Six students have completed a three-day leadership and development camp in the Sabah district of Telupid, designed to strengthen competitiveness and patriotic spirit among young people.
The programme, which ran from 31 July to 2 August at the Social Service Institute (IPS), was organised by the Wonod Village Youth Association. It focused on character development, self-identity, volunteerism and awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Participants took part in nine modules covering leadership, team-building, nationhood, unity, environmental issues, education and community service.
To mark National Month, the students joined facilitators and committee members in hoisting the Jalur Gemilang (Malaysian flag) as a symbol of love for the country and to help instil a stronger sense of patriotism.
Programme director Emmanuel Atin said youth leadership development must go hand in hand with national pride, respect for diversity and a willingness to serve the community.
“We aim to produce young people who are not only skilled in leadership, but who also possess a strong sense of identity, patriotism and responsibility toward their communities and the nation,” he said.
The camp was organised in collaboration with the Telupid/Tongod District Education Office and several psychological agencies in Sabah. The closing ceremony was officiated by the Sabah Regional Chief of APPGM-SDG, Mc Jeanet Lempisik.
At the same event, Ashley Cheong Sue Jing and Gospel Eternity Philip were named Best Female and Best Male Participants respectively.
Ms Cheong said the recognition had motivated her to continue building her confidence and to be unafraid to lead for the benefit of the community.
