KENINGAU: 4 August 2026 — Keningau MP Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Jeffrey G. Kitingan made a working visit to the site of the Keningau Relief Road project in Durok on Monday to assess progress of the RM36 million alternative route.
The project, which began construction on 21 April 2025, has now reached about 30% physical completion, with full completion scheduled for July 2028.
The 3.84-kilometre road, which will connect Jalan Durok to Tuarid Taud, is expected to become a key solution to the long-standing traffic congestion affecting Keningau town residents.
“I wanted to see for myself how far this project has progressed, because it has a direct bearing on people’s daily movement and well-being,” Jeffrey said after the visit.
Earlier, on 16 July, he had raised the issue of traffic congestion in Keningau town in the Dewan Rakyat’s special chamber, urging that the alternative road and the construction of a second bridge be given due attention.
The visit also took in the site of the Sungai Liawan Bridge project along Jalan Luagan, which was reported to have reached 95.6% completion and is targeted for completion by August 2026.
Jeffrey also called for the Durok Bypass, the Beriawa road, and upgrades to the Nukakatan and Kumawanan roads to be given priority, in order to facilitate economic and agricultural activities for the interior communities.
