KENINGAU: 22 June 2026 – Efforts to tighten security along Sabah’s border are being stepped up with the construction of an immigration, customs, quarantine and security (ICQS) complex and a jetty in Pagalungan, Nabawan, officials have said.
Datuk Haji Awang Shahminan bin Datuk Haji Ag. Sahar, Sabah’s State Secretary for Home Affairs and Research, said integrated border infrastructure was vital to improve enforcement, facilitate cross-border transactions and support development in the interior.
He was speaking after chairing a coordination meeting on the Sabah border development project at the Keningau District Office on 19 June, followed by a site visit to the proposed location in Pagalungan the next day.
The meeting and visit were aimed at reviewing the project’s progress, identifying implementation challenges and coordinating inter-agency action to ensure it stays on schedule.
Earlier, representatives from PBLT Sdn Bhd and its appointed consultants briefed the delegation on the project’s current status. Discussions focused on execution, supporting infrastructure needs and measures to resolve identified issues.
Also present were Mat Reo bin Oredi, Deputy Immigration Director (Management); Dewitt Ferrer David Joannes, Head of Finance and Development; Romel Macoco Rodolfo, Head of Operations at the Pagalungan Immigration Control Post; and Tc. Mohd Kamil bin Daud, Head of the Development Unit.
The project reflects the ongoing commitment of the Sabah Immigration Department and other agencies to strengthening border management through strategic co-operation and sustainable infrastructure development, in line with the Malaysia MADANI and Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) aspirations.
