KALABAKAN: Aug 17, 2026 — About 1,500 residents from Kalabakan and surrounding areas took part in the Safe Internet Campaign (KIS) Community Carnival X Merdeka Jalur Gemilang Convoy (KMJG) 2026 at Dewan Semai Bakti, Felda Umas, on Saturday.
Since its launch in January 2025, KIS has reached over 148,300 participants across Sabah through advocacy and digital education programmes.
Organised by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the programme focused on raising awareness on safe and responsible Internet usage.
Activities held included the Merdeka Fun Run, Citra Malaysia Costume Competition and People’s Fun Games.
Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) also shared information on financial fraud tactics and identity theft.
Kalabakan Member of Parliament Datuk Andi Muhammad Suryady Bandy said Internet safety is crucial to ensure the community can use technology securely.
“Internet safety is no longer just a technological issue, but is directly linked to the people’s ability to protect their personal information, savings and family well-being from cybercrime threats,” he said while officiating the programme.
Other agencies that provided information and advisory services included the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Social Security Organisation (PERKESO), Employees Provident Fund (KWSP), National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) and Sains Xplor.
