PENAMPANG: July 5, 2026 – Two local men, aged 32 and 49, have been arrested after testing positive for methamphetamine (METH) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) during a police operation at entertainment premises in the district last night.
The large-scale operation, codenamed “Op Pusat Hiburan”, was conducted by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Penampang District Police Headquarters.
According to District Police Chief Superintendent Sammy Newton, a total of 32 individuals at two venues underwent urine screening tests.
“The results confirmed that the two local men were positive for drugs. They are now in custody for further investigation,” he said in an official statement today.
The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for self-administration of dangerous drugs, which carries penalties of fines or imprisonment upon conviction.
The operation, led by Assistant Superintendent Bakar bin Jasa, also aimed to ensure that entertainment outlets comply with established laws and regulations.
Police have assured that similar operations will be stepped up periodically as a proactive measure to curb drug abuse in the Penampang area.
