RANAU: Sept 3, 2026 — Police have arrested two local men and seized 40.5 litres of ketum water in two separate raids conducted by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department of the Ranau District Police Headquarters at a village within the district on Sept 1.
In the first raid at about 5.30pm, a 25-year-old man was detained along with 10 mineral water bottles containing ketum water, each with a capacity of 1.5 litres.
Also confiscated were a polystyrene box, a burner, a gas cylinder, a cooking stove and a pot believed to have been used to process the ketum water.
In the second raid at about 5.40pm, a 37-year-old man was arrested with 17 mineral water bottles containing ketum water, each also holding 1.5 litres — amounting to 25.5 litres.
Police also seized a red chest, two gas cylinders, a cooking stove and a pot believed to have been used for the cooking process.
Both arrests were made based on sustained intelligence gathering and information provided by the local community.
The possession and processing of ketum liquid is an offence under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952, which carries a maximum fine of RM100,000 or imprisonment of up to five years, or both, upon conviction.
Ranau District Police Chief Superintendent Mursalin Mahmud expressed his appreciation to the public for their cooperation and vigilance in channelling information to the police.
He said the Ranau district police would continue to intensify operations to curb unlawful activities, while ensuring the safety and well-being of the community in the district.
