KOTA KINABALU: July 15, 2026 – The Sabah State Legislative Assembly is set to debate nine bills during a four-day sitting beginning 20 July, including three new bills being tabled for the first time.
Speaker of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly, Datuk Seri Panglima Kadzim M. Yahya, said the three new bills are the Islamic Inheritance Bill 2026, the Native Courts Bill 2026, and the District Chief, Native Chief and Village Chief Bill 2026.
He said five other bills involve amendments, including the Sabah Ports Authority (Amendment) Bill 2026 and the Sabah Ports (Privatisation) (Amendment) Bill 2026, which relate to a change in ministry name, in addition to one Supplementary Supply (2026) Bill 2026.
“All bills brought before the assembly are important. If they were not of significance, they would not be tabled for debate,” he told reporters.
Mr Kadzim also reminded all assembly members to adhere to the Standing Orders and to use their debate time judiciously. He said the standard of debate in the Sabah assembly has so far been good, with the majority of members raising substantive issues and putting forward quality arguments.
Members of the public can follow the assembly proceedings live via the official online broadcast, which begins at 10am on each sitting day.
