PENAMPANG: July 6, 2026 – A 47-year-old local male motorcyclist has been confirmed dead following a road accident involving a car and a motorcycle at Kilometre 17 of the Kota Kinabalu–Papar road, at around 3.30am on Monday.
The acting Penampang district police chief said preliminary investigations revealed that a car, driven by a 22-year-old local male, was travelling from Kota Kinabalu towards Papar when it lost control and collided with the victim’s motorcycle.
As a result of the impact, the victim’s motorcycle was dragged and caught fire at the scene, while the rider was thrown onto the road and sustained severe injuries.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer from Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu.
The car driver has been detained to assist with further investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
