KOTA KINABALU: Oct 4, 2026 — A man in his 20s was found dead after the Honda WR-V he was driving veered off the road and plunged into a drain at Jalan Pan Borneo Inanam, near the turn-off into Kampung Kawakaan, on Oct 2.
Kota Kinabalu District Police received information about the discovery of the body from the Fire and Rescue Department at 10.50am at the location.
Preliminary investigations found that the accident occurred at about 4pm on Oct 1, when the victim was travelling from Penampang to Menggatal. The vehicle is believed to have lost control, veered to the left side of the road and hit a barrier before plunging into the drain.
The victim is believed to have been thrown out of the vehicle before being swept away by strong currents. The search operation was temporarily halted due to bad weather and strong currents before resuming on the morning of Oct 2.
The body was found lodged against a log in a river, about two kilometres from the crash site. It was sent to Queen Elizabeth I Hospital for a post-mortem. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
