KUDAT: August 4, 2026 — Job offers promising lucrative salaries, easy tasks, and quick profits are increasingly being used as bait by scam syndicates to deceive the public, especially individuals who are currently seeking employment.
Through various platforms such as Facebook, WhatsApp, and Telegram, scammers offer part-time or full-time jobs with conditions that appear too easy. Some promise high income without requiring experience, specific qualifications, or even an interview session.
According to a post by the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) of the Kudat District Police Headquarters, signs to watch out for include salaries that are excessively high for easy tasks, companies that have no clear information or do not exist, transactions conducted solely via messaging applications, and the absence of a valid employment contract.
The public is advised to first check the company’s background through official sources such as the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) or the company’s official website before accepting any job offer.
Furthermore, sensitive information such as bank account numbers, TAC codes, OTPs, and passwords should not be shared with any unknown individuals.
Legitimate employers will also not ask job applicants to make payments as a condition for securing employment. Therefore, any request involving registration fees, deposits, or package purchases should be treated as an early warning that the offer is highly likely a scam.
To reduce the risk of becoming a victim, the public is encouraged to seek the views of family members or friends if they receive a dubious offer. Phone numbers or bank accounts can also be checked via the Semak Mule Portal before making any transaction.
Should they become a victim or have information related to scams, the public is urged to immediately contact the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) at 997 or file a report at the nearest police station so that immediate action can be taken.
