KOTA KINABALU: Oct 26, 2026 — Sabah’s clean energy transition has achieved another milestone with the Kolombong Large-Scale Solar Plant, with a capacity of 15 MWac, officially commencing commercial operations on 17 October 2026.
What is more encouraging is that this mega project was successfully completed and operational 40 days ahead of its original completion schedule of 26 November 2026.

The Sabah Energy Commission (ECoS) said in a media statement that the plant, developed by TG Solar Sdn Bhd under the Teck Guan Group, is the first large-scale solar project to successfully complete a full cycle under the regulation of the LSS-Sabah 2024 programme.
The plant, built on a 36.1-acre site at Jalan Cenderakasih, off Jalan Lintas, combines ground-mounted and rooftop installation systems using 30,000 bifacial solar modules.

It is expected to supply approximately 33.4 GWh of electricity per year to the Sabah Electricity (SESB) grid, thereby meeting the electricity needs of more than 9,000 homes in Sabah.
ECoS Chief Executive Officer Datuk Ir. Abdul Nasser Abdul Wahid said this early success reflects the strong commitment and solid coordination among the developer, contractors, government departments and utilities involved.
“This milestone achievement 40 days ahead of schedule reflects strong commitment and coordination. The successful delivery of this project also proves the effectiveness of ECoS’s competitive bidding implementation for LSS in 2024,” he said.
He said the move is important to diversify the electricity generation matrix, strengthen energy security and increase renewable energy generation in Kota Kinabalu in line with the Sabah Energy Roadmap 2040 (SE-RAMP 2040).
Electricity from this plant will be supplied to SESB for a period of 25 years through a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) via a 33 kV interconnection at the Kolombong Main Distribution Substation.
The project was successfully realised with the involvement of GV Borneo Sdn Bhd as the main contractor (EPCC) and fully supported by local consultants and site personnel.
