KUALA PERLIS: Sept 14, 2026 – The body of a fisherman feared missing in Perlis waters was found by the fishing community about 400 metres from Pulau Batu Layang yesterday, during a search-and-rescue (SAR) operation that was resumed by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).
The operation was resumed after the Search and Rescue Forward Base (PHC) was reactivated at 8am to locate the fisherman who was reported missing.
The body was found at 8.25am before the Benteng 1207 boat was deployed to the location and arrived at 9.08am to retrieve it.
The body was then taken to the Kuala Perlis Customs Jetty at 9.30am before being handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) five minutes later for further action and investigation.
The operation also involved PDRM, the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM) and the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), with five assets deployed.
The assets involved were the Benteng 1207 boat, PSC 20 boat, two JBPM rescue boats and an APM boat.
