PENAMPANG: Sept 1, 2026 – Police have arrested a 31-year-old local man and seized 31 plastic packets containing powder suspected to be the drug ecstasy, weighing a total of 1,060.39 grammes, during an operation in this district.
The suspect was apprehended at about 12.30am at an entertainment outlet. Initial urine screening tests returned positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine, and THC.
A follow-up investigation led to the discovery of a bag at a separate location. Checks revealed the 31 plastic packets of suspected drugs, with an estimated street value of RM20,150.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, as well as Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act. The suspect has been remanded to facilitate further investigations.
Penampang District Police Chief, Superintendent Sammy bin Newton, said the Penampang District Police Headquarters (IPD Penampang) remains committed to stepping up enforcement operations to combat drug trafficking and abuse, in order to safeguard public safety and well-being.
