PENAMPANG: 15 June 2026 – Police have dismantled a cockfighting operation during a special raid at an unnumbered village house in Kampung Buit Hills, Penampang, yesterday afternoon, with the arrest of three local men aged between 24 and 40.
Penampang District Police Chief, Superintendent Sammy Bin Newton, said the raid was carried out at around 3pm by a team of officers and personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Penampang District Police Headquarters, following information and intelligence received.
During the operation, police seized eight live roosters, one rubber ring believed to be used as a cockfighting arena, several related pieces of equipment, and cash totalling RM606 believed to be linked to the gambling activity.
All suspects, along with the seized items, were taken to the Penampang District Police Headquarters for further investigation. Background checks revealed that none of the three suspects had previous criminal records, while preliminary urine tests came back negative.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Animal Welfare Enactment 2015 on suspicion of involving animal cruelty through cockfighting activities.
If convicted, offenders face a fine of up to RM100,000, imprisonment of not more than three years, or both.
