KUCHING: Sept 22, 2026 – Two foreign nationals failed in their attempt to escape an immigration inspection by hiding in a drain after they were detected by Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) personnel during Ops Selera and Ops Kutip around Kuching on 21 September.
The operation ran from 10am to midnight, with inspections carried out at seven locations around Westfield Points, Jalan Tun Hussein Onn, Pekan Batu 10 and Kota Sentosa.
The inspections involved eateries suspected of being involved in online gambling activities.
A total of 48 people were inspected during the operation, while 43 were detained for further action. One witness summons was also issued.
The two foreign nationals tried to flee during the inspection before hiding in a drain.
The operation was carried out based on public complaints and intelligence from JIM Kuching.
All those detained are suspected of committing offences under Section 15(1)(c) and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155) and were taken for further action.
