Man Arrested, Ketum Water Seized in Ranau

RANAU: August 12, 2026 – A 27-year-old local man was arrested and four bottles of ketum water were seized during a raid at a village in the Ranau district yesterday.

In the operation carried out around 12 noon, police also seized four mineral water bottles containing 1.5 litres of ketum water, a plastic package containing one kilogramme of ketum leaves, as well as a green gas cylinder, a cooking stove, and a pot believed to have been used to prepare the ketum water.

The arrest was made by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Ranau District Police Headquarters following continuous intelligence gathering and information from the public.

The consumption and processing of ketum liquid is an offence under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952. If convicted, offenders may be liable to a maximum fine of RM100,000 or imprisonment of up to five years, or both.

Ranau District Police Chief, Superintendent Mursalin bin Mahmud, said police will continue to intensify operations to curb such activities for the well-being of the community.

He also reminded the public to act as the “eyes and ears” of PDRM by channelling early information to assist in preventive measures.
