KOTA KINABALU, July 20 — The Sabah state government plans to build a Sports Complex in the Membakut district under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMKe-13) development project, said Minister of Youth Development, Sports Advancement and Creative Economy (MYSpaCE), Datuk Haji Nizam bin Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Abu Bakar Titingan.
He said this in response to an oral question from Bongawan Assemblyman, Dr Daud bin Yusof, during the Sabah State Legislative Assembly sitting here today.
According to Datuk Nizam, his ministry is currently in the process of gazetting the land that has been identified for the project.
“The actual cost estimate and project implementation timeline will be detailed after all procedures are complied with, such as the land acquisition process and approval from the Local Authority,” he said.
He added that a site visit to the proposed location was conducted on July 18, together with the Membakut Assemblyman and ministry officials.
“The ministry is in the process of identifying technical requirements and site suitability, including land area, road access, basic utilities and long-term development potential, to ensure the project can be implemented in an orderly and effective manner,” he said.
Meanwhile, in response to a question from the Sungai Manila Assemblyman regarding the construction of a Sungai Manila Mini Sports Complex, Datuk Nizam informed that the ministry would consider the proposed project under future Malaysia Plans, subject to the availability of a suitable site and government allocation approval.
He explained that no site has yet been identified for the construction of the mini sports complex.
“The Sandakan Sports Complex is located near Sungai Manila, and all sports activities from Sungai Manila can be carried out at the Sandakan Sports Complex, which is currently being upgraded to enhance facilities and the quality of existing amenities,” he said.
