KOTA KINABALU: Calls for the Federal Government to stop delaying the implementation of Sabah’s 40 percent net revenue tax rights are growing louder, with political leaders warning that continued delays could undermine constitutional rights as well as public confidence.

Jin Tze Vun, Acting Chief of the Beaufort Division and coordinator of the Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR Sabah), said the issue has reached a critical stage and should no longer be postponed under the pretext of legal procedures.

He emphasized that the rights are clearly enshrined in the Federal Constitution and have already been confirmed by the courts. However, the Federal Government’s action to seek a stay of execution has caused its implementation to remain delayed.

“A stay of execution cannot be used as an excuse to evade responsibility or postpone justice,” he said in a statement.

“If the Federal Government truly has sincere political will, they must accelerate negotiations and reach a resolution, rather than continue to postpone.”

According to him, the issue has now gone beyond legal disputes and has become a test of political will and leadership accountability.

He also urged all Members of Parliament, Sabah State Assembly members, and political party representatives to set aside differences and unite in pressing the Federal Government on this matter.

“On issues involving Sabah’s fundamental rights, there is no room for neutrality. Silence or compromise is a betrayal of the people’s trust,” he said.

Jin also stressed that Sabah has long contributed significantly to the country’s oil revenue and natural resources but still faces high living costs, uneven development, and a lack of infrastructure.

“Sabah is not asking for special treatment, but only demands the basic rights guaranteed by the Constitution,” he added.

He warned that if rights confirmed by the courts can continue to be postponed indefinitely, public confidence in the system will be seriously eroded.

“This is not just a policy dispute, but a crucial moment to defend Sabah’s dignity. The people of Sabah must unite, remain steadfast, and not back down,” he said.
